Tips for Women Starting Over at 60

From moving from one location to the other to getting back out on the social scene, starting life over after 60 can be scary and a little bit overwhelming as well.

Whether it’s because of a divorce or just the need to try something new, starting over at 60 isn’t something to be afraid of. Remember, women at 60 are no longer considered to be part of the elderly population. In this blog, you can find a few tips for starting over when you thought your life was settled for good.

What to Wear

There are those who will tell you that you need to dress in mom jeans and loose sweaters, but it’s up to you what fashion advice you take and which you don’t. First, take a look around you. Is every other woman your age dressed dowdy and lifeless? No, they aren’t, so you shouldn’t have to either.

Whether it’s a closet full of boutique maxi dresses or jeans and a nice shirt, you should be able to dress however makes you comfortable, no matter your age.

Maintain and Work to Improve Your Physical Health

If you’re starting your life over at 60-years-of-age, your first priority should be looking after and improving your physical health. Being or becoming active at this age doesn’t stop changes to your body from happening, but exercising certainly has preventative benefits. Besides, the more active you are, the better you’ll feel, physically, emotionally, and mentally. Whether it’s morning exercise, yoga, or taking a brisk walk after breakfast and again after dinner, you’ll feel better about starting over when you’re more active.

Widen Your Social Network

From social media sites to clubs and the local coffee shop, there are plenty of places where you can widen your social network. While you have to be careful what type of information you put on social media and of course, be careful who you make friends with there are too many options to make friends these days not to take advantage of it. You can join a class at the gym or go to your local community center to make new friends, just don’t forget to keep up with old friends as well.

Sign up for a Class/Never Stop Learning

The one thing you should realize when starting over at 60 is that you’re never too old to learn. Sign up for a few classes at the local community college, take a cooking class, or join yoga at your gym. You’ll learn something and might make a few lifelong friends at the same time.

If you’ve wanted to follow a passion for years now, learning that passion is the perfect way to start over and be happy about doing it.

Determine What’s Most Important to You

Keep in mind that starting over at 60 isn’t the same as starting over at 30 or 40 even. You have more knowledge and experience now, which gives you the opportunity to make different choices, choices you might not have made as a younger woman. Focus less on your age and more on what you want to do at this stage of your life. Whether it’s writing a book, taking classes, or traveling the world, the choice is yours and yours alone.

These are just a few of the best tips out there for women who start over at 60. Your age isn’t important, it’s the decisions you make and how you carry them out. Do what’s best for you and what you’ll have the most fun with and don’t worry about the rest.
