How to Fix Hard Water Problems in Your Home

There are many people across the country who have to deal with hard water in their homes. In the main this is as a result of living in high sediment areas and it affects upwards of 80% of the population. Whilst hard water can cause skin irritation in a small number of people, the reality is that there are no real health concerns associated with hard water. With this being said however, hard water can lead to excess limescale in home appliances and have a devastating impact on your plumbing system. If you have issues related to hard water, here are some options you could explore which will solve those problems.

Using a Water Softener

The main problem which so many with hard water face is that the high levels of minerals leave deposits in home appliances and in the plumbing network. The deposits which are left behind by this hard water will build up over time and restrict water flow, not to mention clogging up washing machines and dish washers. If this is a particularly grave problem for you then installing a home water softener system is the best option.  These systems remove high concentrations of magnesium and calcium in the water before it enters the home and causes damage.

Using Washing Soda

When using the washing machine, the use of washing soda is the perfect tonic for your hard water woes. This chemical is packed with carbonic acid salt which removes the dissolved calcium and softens the water as it cleans your clothes. Not only will this remove the minerals in hard water, it will also encourage the soap to lather up more, ensuring a higher quality wash.

Using a Magnetic Water Conditioner

For those dealing with moderate levels of hard water, a magnetic water conditioner could be a great option to soften up the water. This creative device utilizes magnetic fields to change the properties of the water, causing mineral ions to separate and makes it harder for them to stick together. Whilst the minerals remain in the water, they will drain away with ease rather than settling and causing a build up.

Installing a Faucet Softener

If the idea of installing a water softener for the entire home seems too big or too expensive a job, it may be easier for you to look at faucet water softeners. The large majority of softeners use sodium or potassium chloride, combined with a type of resign that encourages ion exchange. The result of using faucet softeners in the bathroom or kitchen mean that the water used in the home will be softer. If you have a severe problem with hard water however then you may still see some build up in the plumbing system in your home.

Cleaning Up

If you are cleaning tough stains which have been left as a result of hard water, make sure that you use distilled white vinegar or a cleaning aid which has been created for use against soap scum formed by the water. You will also find that you have to clean fixtures like the bathtub and the kitchen sink with more regularity, in order to reduce the amount of build-up of these minerals.

As you can see, there are many solutions when it comes to dealing with problems caused by hard water.
