3 Tips For Making Your Home Warm And Cozy For Winter

With winter fast approaching in many areas of the world, it’s time to start thinking about how you can transition your home from a cool oasis to a warm and toasty haven.

To show you just how this can be done within your own home, regardless of how intense your winter weather gets or how much of a budget you have to work with, here are three tips for making your home warm and cozy for winter.

Make Good Use Of Your Fireplace

There’s little else that can make a home feel as warm and toasty as a roaring fireplace. If you already have one in your home, the trick is knowing how to make the most use of it.

According to Anne Reagan, a contributor to The Spruce, your main concern with keeping your home warm and cozy when using a fireplace is to avoid the draftiness that can often come with this heat source.

To help with this, you’ll want to close off the room in which your fireplace resides. Because most fireplaces will draw in air from the room to fuel the fire, having a lot of open doors around the fireplace will just make the area feel more drafty. And without a proper way to get the heat distributed back into the room, your fireplace might not work as well as you’d like when it comes to keeping you and your loved ones warm and cozy this winter.

Switch Out The Textiles and Linens Throughout Your Home

In the warmer months, it makes sense to have textiles or linens that are light and airy. But once the temperature starts dropping, you’re going to want to switch out these textiles for ones that are heavier and warmer.

Ayn-Monique Klahre, a contributor to Real Simple, shares that not only should you bring in heavier sheets, like something similar to flannel, but you should also get fluffier throw pillows and blankets as well. And if you don’t have much carpeting throughout your home, you may also want to bring in some more snuggly rugs to help warm your floors, too.

Set The Mood With The Right Lighting

The right lighting can go a long way toward making a room feel warmer and cozier.

To best accomplish this, Becky Harris, a contributor to Houzz and Forbes.com, advises that you think about adding light in layers. This means that rather than having just an overhead light in each room, consider bringing in additional light sources that can help give more ambiance to the room, including task lighting, dimmer, and lamps.

If you’re ready to start making your home feel more warm and cozy, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you do just that during this winter season.
