Pros & Cons of Slate Flooring
Slate floors are popular in bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and slightly outdoor areas (i.e. verandas) because the natural stone is waterproof, making it a good choice where moisture may be present.
Slate is very durable, doesn't require much maintenance, and due to its dark coloring, hides dirt well. Is it the right flooring material for you though?

Advantages
- Slate is a tough stone that can take a beating.
- It resists water well.
- It's easy to care for.
- Slate doesn't just come in grays and blacks but in a range of beautiful,
subtle hues that can enhance many decors.
- It works nicely in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, and on porches.
Disadvantages
- Slate is expensive in comparison to other flooring materials (though unlike with granite and marble, a do-it-yourself type can install it).
- It's cold and hard underfoot.
- If highly polished, slate can be slippery.
- Slate floors don't absorb sound very well.
