When considering a central vacuum system there are enough brands out there to make your head spin. One of the brands many consider is the Nu-tone system. Nu-tone has come out with a new series, the VX, which they claim is even quieter and more compact to fit in tight corners and minimize the space taken up by the central motor unit. The quieter motor is achieved by having no external muffler.
The VX series has 3 size motors. The VX475, VX550, and the VX1000. The VX475 is designed for square footage of up to 3000 sq. ft. Its airflow is approximately 114 cubic feet per minute. The tank height is 36 inches and it comes with a 2-year warranty.
The VX550, for homes of around 6000 sq. ft., has an airflow of 135 cubic feet per minute. The tank is 39 inches high and the product has a 4-year warranty.
The VX1000, the largest in the VX series, is designed for homes of 12,000 sq. ft. Its air flow is a whopping 230 cubic feet per minute. The tank, even with all this power, is still only 39 inches tall. The VX1000 has an 8-year warranty.
Nu-tone offers this series in both the bag and bagless units.
The dirt capacities for the various models are 6 gallons for the VX 475 and 8 gallons for the VX550 and VX1000.
Nu-tone carries bags that are micro-lined for allergy sufferers. They also have secondary filters that will need changing. The system is very controlled to eliminate the re-circulation of dirt and allergens.
You can imagine that debris and dirt, over time, could build up in the piping in your central vacuum system. Nu-tone offers, Tornado cloths, small towels that can be suctioned through the system to clean up any lint or other trapped materials and to keep your system working at maximum power and efficiency. This can ultimately reduce the need for maintenance calls, as well.
Nu-tone also offers air-freshening tablets that add a fresh scent to a newly cleaned area. In terms of accessory tool kits, Nu-tone offers several packages, with prices varying from around $40 to almost $200.
The basic tool kit includes a floor tool and crevice tool; and upholstery, crystal, and dusting brushes. This is the $40 kit. The deluxe tool kit adds a caddy, bare floor and carpet nozzle, attachment storage bag and telescoping wand. This kit is around $89.
When you buy the kits which include the hoses, the price increases significantly. A 30 ft. non-electric hose with a basic tool kit is approximately $89. For the new home, a standard tool kit with a 30 ft. hose will be in the $300 range.
