Installing Terrazzo Flooring
Some floors you can install yourself. Terrazzo isn't one of them (which
is part of why it's a pretty expensive flooring choice). You really need a
professional who has experience with Terrazzo for the installation. When
selecting a company, it's a good idea to ask for customer recommendations and do
your homework. Here's why:
- Terrazzo is heavy stuff, and you need someone who's going to know how to estimate the finished weight. They'll need to check the sub-floor to ensure it can handle the burden.
- Since Terrazzo is laid in mortar, any plywood underlayment needs to be waterproofed (i.e. with a liquid damp-proof membrane or a polyurethane sheet). Otherwise the water content of the mortar could rot the wood underneath.
