Home Office Chair That Rides Like a Race Car
If you're looking for a luxury home office chair that feels like a ride in a race car, this is probably the closest you're going to get. The "Race Car Driver's Office Chair" from Hammacher Schlemmer is based on seats in luxury European sports cars like the Porsche and Ferrari. It's made by Recaro, the supplier of seats for many international auto racing tems. The chair has an extra high seat back and integrated head support. The contoured shoulders and sides are supposed to relieve upper body tension, the kind that can lead to stiff shoulders and headaches after a long day at the computer. The price for this ride? $4,800. Hey, you didn't think Ferrari office chairs came cheaply, did you?

Corner Gas Fireplace
The season of fireplaces is upon us. With the rising prices of heat, a lot of folks are looking toward fireplaces as energy alternatives this year. Your traditional wood-burning fireplace is a waste of money, though. A wood stove insert is a better bet, but if you're looking for something that heats and looks snazzy too, Heatilator offers a number of "luxury gas fireplaces." Featured here is their contemporary style GDCL (no bonus points for cool names) gas fireplace which is meant to sit in a protruding corner wall with the flames visible from both sides of the wall. The price is $2528.

Luminaire, Inc. has a number of interesting pieces in their collection of wall-based storage solutions, but as a book lover, it was the "Bookworm" shelf that caught my attention. Made of flexible thermoplastic polymer and batch dyed fire retardant PVC, the unique shelf can be molded to fit your tastes. Supports across the length are designed to be used as bookends. The Bookworm shelf is available in bottle green, cobalt blue, red wine, tea yellow, and opaline.

Rolling Library Ladders
Rolling library ladders seem to be a staple of Hollywood home libraries/studies, but they can be practical for everyday homeowners, too. Alaco offers them not only for high shelves in libraries but also for kitchens, lofts, game rooms, wine cellars, and more. Their website has an estimate form where you can specify the dimensions of the ladder you need.

Red Carpeting & Drapes--too much or hip and happening?
Is red a desirable decorating color or is it too powerful, something best left for eccentric homeowners? An article in the Winstone-Salem Journal considers the merits (and demerits) of applying red to a den or library as well as offering a few decorating tips such as "A desk or reading table of dark wood should be accompanied by one or more chairs that are upholstered for comfort and color." Read "Den / library may be perfect place for red carpeting and drapes" for the complete story.
