If you're looking for a pencil holder or other office supplies that have a bit more of a story to them than molded plastic pieces picked up at the local office store, then you may appreciate this piece.
The pen and pencil holder has been handcrafted from barnwood, specifically "beautifully aged sunburnt pine boards, rescued from the sunny side of an old cabin near us."
"The colour of the wood is a natural patina of sunburnt reddish browns. It is carefully sanded, so it feels nice and smooth to the touch, but at the same time preserves its interesting character markings, such as several original nail holes from its former life."
The pencil holder stands four inches wide and four and a half inches tall.
$23 from the Paradise Hill Shop on Etsy.

Usually I kind of roll my eyes at all those goofy gadgets that plug into your computer or laptop's USB port (okay, I admit I did write about a USB vacuum last year, but that was just for kicks), but I might have actually bought this USB desk fan if I'd stumbled across it last summer. That was the summer my air conditioner was broken. There's nothing like trying to sit at the computer and work without moving much (not that I'm usually doing calisthenics when I'm at the computer), and your mouse hand is still sweating.
Anyway, now that I've painted more of a picture than you wanted in your head, I'll get back to the product.
This USB desk fan can be used in your home office, but since it can be plugged into a laptop as well as a PC, you could use it to cool off while working in a car, train, airplane, etc. too. Though if you're a professional suit-clad businessman in first class, you might feel a little goofy using something with such bright blue and green colors. You could always say you swiped it from your children's room...
Hey, at least it's only $6:

That's right folks, cabinets aren't just for the kitchen and the bathroom. You need storage in your home office, too, especially if you do any work from home (as opposed to just using the "home office" to play World of Warcraft).
You can get all sorts of furniture from office stores, but if you want a classier look, you'll probably be wise to have built-in home office cabinets installed. They just end up looking so much nicer than teetering bookcases and freestanding storage units.
As with kitchen cabinets, you can find a whole range of styles, woods, and finishes, so you can surely find something to match the decor of your home. Many companies that do kitchen cabinets will have lines appropriate for home office use.
The cherry cabinets shown here are from the Cambridge line available through Decora Cabinets.

You've seen tacks and you've seen magnets, but have you ever seen the two combined?
This looks like a nifty way to give your bulletin board a little more storage power. Stick memos and business cards to the cork, as you normally would, but then take advantage of the magnetic tops too. The magnet tacks are strong enough to accept keys, sunglasses, paper clips, pens, and other small tools with metal parts.
$19 gets you a 3-pack from DWR.

Hey, decorating isn't just about hanging things on the walls and arranging objets d'art on the shelves. When you're creating a home office space or decorating another room in the house, you'll want to choose functional pieces that please the eye as well.
This leather waste bin is sure to add class to your work space. Whether or not that makes shooting baskets with crumpled up rejects from the printer any more fun is up in the air, but decorative and dedicated home office furnishings should at least help you take "home work" more seriously.
