Decorative Ceiling Fan Pulls

baseball-bat-ceiling-fan-pull.jpgIt seems that all the ceiling fans I've ever had were turned on and off via a switch on the wall, but if you're lucky enough to have the old-fashioned kind, then you've got an excuse to shop for decorative ceiling fan pulls (although I suppose you could put one on your fan even if there's a wall switch).

You can find fan pulls in all sorts of styles and themes. Got a kid (or spouse) in the house who loves baseball? Be whimsical with this baseball bat pull from Shades of Light.

Essential Accessories has decorative beaded fan pulls.

For lovers of dogs, cats, and other animals, check out the decorative animal fan pulls from the Critter Shop.

You can even change your pulls out for different times of the year. Keepers Fan Pulls has seasonal ones such as Halloween pumpkins, gingerbread men and women, and Christmas trees and snowmen.

As you can see, there's no end to what you can find out there to adorn your ceiling fan. Most of these pulls only cost a few dollars, so it's a simple and inexpensive way to add a little whimsy and charm to a room.

Wooden Privacy Screens

Whether you're looking to break up the open spaces of a loft, hide an ugly wall-mounted air conditioner, or screen your deck or patio from the neighbors, privacy screens can be handy to have inside and outside the home. You can get something simple and light that's easy to move around, or you can get something solid made from wood that, while a little heavier, tends to give the space a warm look (it also tends to last for years too).

Take a look at some of the wooden privacy screens here for ideas:

stilo-wooden-privacy-screens.jpgThis wooden privacy screen is from Newman Studio. Called the Stilo, it's made from classy brown mahogany.

Though it's not very ornate, it gets the job done and its simple lines give a feeling of organization rather than clutter. No mention of price or whether it's appropriate for outdoor use on the website, so you'll have to ask them for details if you're interested.

indoor-outdoor-teak-privacy-screen.jpgIf you prefer ornate to simple, then you may dig this teak screen, which can be used outdoors as well as indoors. More rustic than modern, this one features carved panels and frosted panes.

The decorative privacy screen could be used on your deck or patio (dividers like this can be nice when you're in a small yard and the neighbors can easily see into your outdoor living space). This one is $819 at the Room Divider Store.

outdoor-hardwood-privacy-screen.jpgWhen you're using wood for the key material, you can find lots of privacy screens that can be used outdoors (look for species of woods that are known for being resistant to warping, rot, and insects), and this acacia hardwood screen is another example. With four generous panels, this divider also leans toward the simple side, but with the natural beauty of the wood, simple is often enough.

$239 from Outdoor Garden Furniture.

Decorative Storage Box Made from Stained Glass

stained-glass-storage-box.jpgNeed a storage box that will do more than just hold your knickknacks? This stained glass piece is sure to get visitors to comment. I'm not sure it's exactly my cup of tea (I can say that about stained glass in general), but I'm impressed by the work that must have gone into it to create the stained glass flowers, leaves, and even those dragonflies perched on the tips.

The glass is hand-cut, hand-copper-foiled, and soldered together. If you like hand-crafted pieces, you might appreciate this colorful storage box.

It's the work of an Etsy artist named Beck who goes by "Rat" (hey, we don't ask, we just talk about products.), and she's got a number of decorative stained glass pieces in her shop. The prices are quite reasonable (actually, without knowing anything about the work involved in creating something like this, I'm inclined to say too low) so check her out:

Oh, and the little glass storage box is $25 if you get there before it's gone.

Campfire Tealight Holder

campfire-tealight-holder.jpgIf you're looking for a cute tealight holder or two, this campfire version might be fun. I doubt you can actually roast marshmallows over it (though you could try), but you can pretend.

"The white porcelain dutifully captures the dents in the rocks and the knots in the firewood. And it may not be roaring, but the soft glow of the tea light off the white porcelain will create a warm and cozy atmosphere."

The little tealight holder will run you $20 at Uncommon Goods:

Chain Wall Candle Holder Can Frame Doorways and Hallways

enchanted-forest-wall-candle-holder.jpgIf you enjoy decorating with candles, you may dig this interesting wall candle holder:

The Enchanted Forest Voltive Chain.

"The luxurious artistry of candlelight amid graceful boughs of bronzed leaves creates a fairyland setting that is utterly captivating."

The wall candle holder consists of a number of candle sconces linked together in a line. Each piece is hand-fashioned from wrought iron with an antique gold finish. You can get vertical or horizontal sets, and they can be linked together to give you lots of decorative possibilities.

"Compose the inviting doorway garland shown here, or construct a foliage frame that washes a bare wall with flickering silhouettes of light and shadow. The sconces dramatically illuminate a hallway, foyer or stairwell, transforming dark areas into spaces that are alive with warmth."

$40 gets you a set of two horizontal or two vertical candle chains at Illiminations.
