Geothermal Heating Could Save You Money
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the typical American household living in a single-family home spends more than $1,900 a year on utility bills. It could be even more where you live. Ouch.
Heating and cooling can account for up to 50% of your energy bill, so it makes sense to look for an efficient way to heat and cool your home. That's where geothermal energy systems come in.
With geothermal systems (also called ground-source heat pumps), you capture heat and cold from the ground beneath the frost line (where temperatures are pretty constant year-around, about 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit). In the winter, geothermal systems absorb extra heat from the earth and transfer it into your home. In the summer, the heat is taken from the indoors and moved down into the earth.
Geothermal systems can use 50-75% less energy than conventional electric heating and cooling systems, which can be a significant savings over time.
