Moving Companies
Moving is always a hassle whether you're going across town or across the country. If you're doing everything yourself, it's a lot of work, and even if a moving company is helping, you still have to pack all the boxes (and unpack them later) yourself.
If you're busy (and who isn't?), live alone, or just want to avoid hassle, you're probably better off having a moving company handle the driving and heavy lifting. I know that's the way I would go if I were moving (I've done it the hard way--trying to stuff couches in friend's SUVs and what not--and it's a pain.)
The one problem with entrusting your possessions to someone else is that they might not care for them as well as you would. Fortunately, there are a lot of resources online to help you find reputable moving companies. Many have reviews posted, so you can figure out which companies have the best track record, according to the folks who have actually used them.
I've been asked to take a look at My Moving Quote, a directory site that shows online moving companies, services, listings for professional movers, and associated specialty services.
The site lets you request quotes from various companies by entering the date you want to move, your location, and the size of your shipment. They can handle car shipping, office or residential moves, and international relocation as well as local moves.
Under the site's resources section, you can find helpful articles on packing tips, insurance, and choosing a moving company. All in all, the site looks like a good resource.
