Hand-scraped Wood Floors for a Rustic Look

brazilian-cherry-hand-scraped-wood-floors.jpgSome people install hardwood floors that are bright, shiny, and new... and look it. Others install new hardwood floors that actually look like they're a couple hundred years old. This is achieved when manufacturers have the wood "hand scraped" before shipping it. What you end up with is a dented and beaten floor that looks like it's been aged by the hands of time.

Why would anyone want to do this? Well, it gives the whole floor a rustic, old-world feel. If you've got a century old (or older) house with original details, installing a flawless floor might not look right. Whereas with hand-scraped floors, you can get structurally new and sound hardwoods that look entirely authentic to the time period of the house.

Shown here is a beautiful Brazilian cherry that's been hand scraped. More pictures are up at Pennington Hardwoods.

Certainly a gorgeous and natural looking finish obtained. I have always preferred the rustic look over a squeaky clean never used new look.
Beautiful......for sure!
Nice work.
