Improve Above-Ground Pool Look with Landscaping

Lindsay ~ 2 August 2010

Above ground swimming pools are much more affordable than in-ground versions, but they get a bad rap for not being all that attractive. With a little landscaping, however, you can turn that eye sore into a summer oasis.

If you aren’t that keen on the walls (that plastic blue just isn’t as handsome as the manufacturers thought), try planting shrubs to cover them up. If you choose this route, stick with varieties that won’t grow so high that leaves will fall into the water and clog the plumbing (or plan on keeping the foliage trimmed).

Another option is to build a deck so your above ground pool actually looks like an in-ground pool. A deck can completely hide ugly walls, and it gives you the perfect place for a couple lounge chairs and maybe even an outdoor dining area.

Wood siding (or faux wood siding), as if often used with hot tubs, is another option for covering up unattractive walls.

Whether you go for landscaping, a deck, or covering the walls, there are any number of ways to improve the look of that above ground pool. Don’t be afraid to get creative!
