The World of Fabrics & Fillings, Part 1

MarinaHanes ~ 9 September 2009

There are so many options when it comes to your cushions, pillows, duvets, mattresses and soft furniture. Do you want natural fibers or synthetic fibers?

Some natural fibers include cotton, linen, wool and leather. Cotton is a versatile and comfortable fabric, and you can often find tablecloths and bed sheets made from this material. You can go one step further and purchase organic cotton, which doesn’t contain residual pesticides.

Linen comes from the straw of the flax plant. You usually find it in cream to dark tan and grey. This fiber is full of texture and is also absorbent and colourfast.

Wool is a heavier fabric that lasts long like leather. A wool throw for your bedrooms is perfect if you have cold winters. Or you can keep your feet warm with the brown/white speckled cowhide rug shown below.

These natural fabrics are long lasting and durable, so they can save you money in the long run.
