Poisonous House Plants for Pets
If you have dogs or cats, it’s important to some research before bringing a plant into your home. Many common household plants can be dangerous and even toxic to your pets. Some plants can cause serious illness such as kidney failure. For example, the Peace Lily can cause cats to vomit after ingestion and within 24 hours, the cat will most likely experience renal failure.
Before you buy any trees, vines, bulbs, shrubs, lilies, ferns and other houseplants, you need to check online. You can even ask the sales associate from the gardening center, because they will probably be knowledgeable enough to answer. However, if they’re unable to help you, there are many sites that list out poisonous plants for pets, so it doesn’t take long to figure out which ones you can and cannot have.
Even if you take the plant home, you can most likely return it. Keeping the plants up high away from your animals is a good idea, but when the dead leaves fall off, you’re taking a risk. Instead of hanging plants where you don’t really want them, choose non-toxic plants that you can place wherever you like.
