Types of Shrubs
Shrubs serve an important role in the garden, because they connect other elements together such as the tall trees and horizontal flowers and ground covers. Shrubs can be various sizes, lengths and widths, and they are usually easy to maintain throughout the year. So what are your options when selecting shrubs?
Columnar shrubs are skinny and tall, and they can be used near doorways or other areas that you want bordered. Pyramidal shrubs are a bulkier than columnar shrubs, but they can serve the same purpose of defining an area and starting a foundation around your door or pathway. Arching, rounded and sprawling or prostrate shrubs can be incorporated into flowerbeds. Flowering hydrangeas bloom throughout the summer and can add rich color.
Selecting the right shrubs also involve making sure they in scale with the rest of the house. Large shrubs can guard the front door, but you don’t want to block it or detract from it.
