Solar-powered Bird Bath Features Fountain

Lindsay ~ 6 March 2009

If you’ve got a birdbath that you tend to forget about and where the water eventually becomes murky and algae-ridden, you’re not the only one.  We tend to “set it and forget it” with bird baths, and that’s fine if there’s some water flow to keep the pool from growing stagnant, but if there’s not, expect mosquito eggs and other nasty things in that icky water.

One way to achieve the “set it and forget it” birdbath is to get one with a fountain feature.

Of course, that usually means plugging your fountain into an outlet to power the pump, and chances are you want your bird bath to be away from the house where birds won’t be afraid to come close and use it.  Solar power offers a way to power that fountain that doesn’t require access to an electrical outlet.

This simple Copper Solar Recirculating Birdbath from Hammacher Schlemmer might just do the job for the bird lover in your family.

“This brushed solid copper birdbath has a separate solar cell that powers a quiet, hidden pump to keep water recirculated and filtered for freshness, providing a stagnation-free, watering and bathing location for birds.”

$179 for the Solar-powered birdbath
