Eco-friendly Doghouse Heated and Cooled with GeoThermal Energy

Lindsay ~ 31 January 2009

Looking for a doghouse that’s cool for Fido in the summer and warm in the winter? Try one that installs underground and takes advantage of the earth’s insulation.

The DogEden doghouse is supposed to appeal to a dog’s natural instincts to build dens in the ground. It also features 20% recycled materials, a built-in tie out, and self-heating and cooling (according to the site, when it is a cold -2 F/-18 C outside, it’ll be a comfortable 48 F/ 9 C inside, and when it’s a hot 105 F/41 C outside, it’ll be a cool 72 F/22C inside).

The underground dog house comes with a life time warranty, and there is no assembly required (of course, you’ll have to dig a hole to put it in!).

The DogEden house costs $400 and looks to be fairly indestructible. Of course, I’d never convince my dogs to move outside–they’d much prefer to make use of the climate controlled people house.

This is a brilliant idea! Why was this never done before? This is so logical.Dog owners will love this item. I like the Green aspect. Using the earths insulating capabilities and using recycled materials. This is a winner!

this isnt a good/finished idea. if something were to crawl in there (say a snake?) doggies a little trapped. Also, if it rains?? theres nothing there to keep the rain from coming in at the doorway, when it splatters on the ground…its an interesting/good idea, but needs some improvement!

I believe the overhang is large enough to keep rain from flooding in. And dogs are less oblivious to things than humans, so I’m sure they’d know if something dangerous (snake) was in there. Still, my dogs prefer the human bedroom and the human bed for sleeping, so I wouldn’t know for sure. :P

Not to mention from the scale of the drawing, how is the dog to get in, turn around, much less EXIT the enclosure, this looks more like some kind of flinstone garbage disposal in modern times.

it’s all very well keeping a dogs natural instinct.does that mean the dog will need to be left to return to a natural instinct to hunt live food?or live in social packs,?what if you only have one dog?isn’t it just messin the dogs mind up by letting it have access to one natural instinct and depriveing it of all the othr instincts?.
why not put a plastic kennel above ground and cover it with earth ……like people did when they made anderson bomb shelters during the war.
good luck to the inventor though.(the dog i mean).

That looks more like a coffin, than a dog house. Like some sort of weird dog based iron maiden.

I would never put my dog in it!

The doghouse that I have designed is not completely buried, so cleaning would not be a big deal. Only the base of our doghouse is below ground level and the top is removable. This will give the best of both worlds. Our entry way is covered and has a ramp that is slopped toward the outside so rain will not come in.

I agree what if water gets in Lots of time we get a lot of rain and it just stands in the yard so it would flood the doghouse and how would you clean it out? I think it needs a lot more work

I bought his for my dog Butch. Right off the bat Butch loved this doghouse. He slept it in all day and night; I couldn’t get him out of there, not even for snackies! He loved it during the day to get out of the heat, and even at night to stay warm when I’d lock him outside so I could masturbate without his judgmental glances. But sadly the DogEden would be Butch’s downfall…. Seven days after the purchase, it was the middle of July; I let Butch out in the morning after our daily breakfast of boiled penguin eggs, and his natural instincts led him immediately to his doghouse made of recycled dog houses. Not realizing that a rattlesnake was waiting for him in the cool shade of his aptly named DogEden, Butch descended into the darkness… never to rise again.

I’ve entombed his body in that doghouse, creating quite a lovely eco-friendly sarcophagus . It accents my rose bushes quite nicely, where a certain someone isn’t digging holes anymore. Thanks, DogEden!

Most of the storms come from the West, so do not point the opening of the dog house in that direction. If rain does get into our dog house, then the top come off and gives you access to the floor for cleaning.

sorry about your dog:S to be frank this doesn’t sound like the best doggie house. to hard to clean. animals could get in it and you’re basically saying to the dog that they need to un-evolve by making them live half under ground. if dogs like to go underground to keep cool then it can go on the subway ;) jokes. it does sound a bit silly, i think my dog is happy with lying in a wooden nice normal dog house that isn’t underground.
