Whole House Dehumidifier Fights Mold Growth

Lindsay ~ 20 December 2008

A whole house dehumidifier can be a wise investment, especially in damp climates where mold can be a problem. For people with mold allergies, it can cause hay fever-type symptoms, such as sneezing, runny nose, red eyes, and it can also make asthma symptoms worse. Even people who don’t suffer mold allergies can find the pervasive stuff intrusive–it can irritate the eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs.

A whole house dehumidifier can go a long ways toward combating mold growth. These devices plug into your heating and cooling system and work to keep interior air in the ideal humidity range of 25-60%. Not only does this humidity level keep molds from gaining a foothold, but it can make you feel more comfortable as well.

You don’t have to do anything either. A whole house dehumidifier, such as the Comfort-Aire model shown here, senses atmospheric changes and removes more moisture from the air than an air conditioner alone.
