Black & Decker Thermal Leak Detector Finds Hidden Energy Leaks
Afraid drafts under doors and around windows are costing you money? It’s no secret that you might be “heating the outdoors,” if these areas aren’t well insulated, but they’re not the only spots in your home that can be leaking heat in the winter (or air conditioned air in the summer).
With the Thermal Leak Detector from Black & Decker you can find problem areas around windows, doors, electrical outlets, recessed lights, and floor molding.
Run the gadget along likely problem areas, and when it finds a cold or hot spot, the LED indicator light will change to blue or red depending on the type of temperature change registered. Hey, it beats holding candles in front of potential drafty areas (this is the 21st Century after all).
Of course, the thermal leak detector just helps you find the problem areas–you’ll still have to insulate them, but once you do, you may save as much as 20% on your energy bills.
The leak detector is scheduled to hit the market in early 2009.
