Get Rid of Moles with Solar Power

22 November 2008

When I moved from a condo to a house, I inherited a big old yard right in the middle of Mole Central. Of course, the dogs like to have things to track and sniff when they’re out doing their circuit, but perhaps I should get rid of the moles and save the lawn from those not-so-little mole mounds. Perhaps a solar-powered mole repeller is what I need.

I’m a bit skeptical, but here’s the concept:

The sun powers the device’s solar collectors, which in turn power the stick part that is stuck in the ground. It sends penetrating sonic pulses through the soil, which cause nearby moles to run for cover. The mole repeller is supposed to work even in low light conditions (”rain or shine”).

Since mole traps are illegal in some areas, this could be a blessing for some folks if it works.

Has anyone used one of these gadgets? Do they really get rid of moles?
