Kitchen Tables vs. Portable Kitchen Islands

16 October 2008

If you’re looking for more food prep space, or perhaps a spot where the kids can sit and do their homework while you make dinner, then an island or table is a great addition to the kitchen. Both tables and islands can be portable or even folding, so you can use them when you want and tuck them out of the way when you don’t.

Islands are usually more for food prep and storage whereas tables are designed to accommodate chairs, and can often be tucked in corners if there isn’t room in the center of the kitchen.

You can find all sorts of kitchen table ideas online, so you just have to decide how much space you have and what style of table would be best for your kitchen.

If you like sleek and modern, you might dig this stainless steel chef’s table from Dvorsons. Locking wheels make it easy to move the table about or lock it into a stationary position, and it’s high enough to support a couple of stools, so you can plop family members down to help you chop veggies for dinner.
