Cable Railing Is Great for Decks with a View

18 October 2008

If you’re fortunate enough to have a great view from your home, a deck is a fabulous way to sit outside and enjoy the scenery. However, if you use typical wood or composite railings that match your wood or composite deck, they tend to block out the view. It’s hard to sit down with your cup of coffee in the morning and enjoy the scenery when you’re craning your neck to see over the rail.

An alternative is “Cable Rail,” a horizontal railing system made from thin steel cables. The cables attach to the deck posts and do the job of providing safety and security while being subtle enough not to interfere with the view.

Unlike the various glass deck railing options on the market, cable doesn’t pick up fingerprints, dog nose prints, crow droppings, etc., so it’s a lower maintenance option.

The railing shown here was installed up in Alaska by Rivers Wood Products.
