Patio Retaining Wall Can Be Opportunity for Extra Seating

1 September 2008

For those who like to entertain in their outdoor living areas, extra seating is always a consideration. If you’re building a new patio and need a retaining wall, it could be an opportunity to add lots of space for family and friends to plant their rumps.

If you’re installing a retaining wall anyway, and it makes sense for it to be a couple feet off the ground, it’s fairly simple to add a flat surface along the top that makes it work for overflow seating.

Try brick or flat stones that stand out a bit and make it apparent that the wall is for sitting. During fair weather, you could even scatter a few cushions along the top to make the stone or brick more comfortable for all those rumps.
