Insulate the Attic to Save Money This Winter
If you’re looking to save on your heating and air conditioning costs (and who isn’t looking to save money?), then insulating the attic can be cost effective.
One product you can check into is Astro-Foil. It comes in rolls and gets installed on the underside of rafters in the attic (instead of between ceiling joists), and it creates a “radiant barrier.” This gives it an R-value of 15 and a U-value of 0.082 (U-values measure how much heat passes through windows, radiant barriers, etc. with the lower numbers being better).
Astro-Foil comes in rolls and looks a bit like bubble wrap, though it’s sandwiched between layers of aluminum foil. During the installation, the foil strips are taped together, which means there’s no need for sprays or adhesives.
You can install the product in other places as well: around pipes, ductwork, water heaters, doors and windows, etc.
No matter which product you choose, insulating the attic can be a great way to save a few bucks a month on your energy bills.
