Walk-in Showers Are Easy to Maintain

1 August 2008

I don’t know about you, but I hate cleaning the bathroom. The tub and shower area is particularly tedious. If you have a tub shower, then you have to clean dirt and other funk off the bottom of the tub and the curtain, and if you’ve got a shower stall, there’s usually gunk and/or mildew in the crevasses of the door. I’d dig a nice looking walk-in shower, if only because there’s no door or shower curtain.

With walk-in showers, they’re built as their own little (well, some of the luxury ones are not so little) rooms that are angled so water won’t escape and flood the bathroom. There usually isn’t a door, just a wall or partition to create some privacy.

Since you’re not confined to a tiny shower cubicle, there’s usually room for some other amenities too. Some walk-in showers feature multiple shower heads, extra spray jets, and benches to sit on (or prop your foot on for shaving).

If I were remodeling my bathroom, and had some space to play with, I’d definitely put in a walk-in shower (and some of those jets sound good too).

We had a huge “lux” walk-in shower in our last custom home. Never again. I want a door to keep in the steam and heat! Brrrrrr!

yeah, I think they’re climate-dependent. ;) I wouldn’t want one in Seattle, but maybe in Florida!
