SolaTube — the Skylight Goes Modern

Skylights are out; tubular daylighting devices are in.
More cost effective (and, according to the manufacturers, less susceptible to leaks) than skylights, these light tubes can be installed in your roof to bring natural daylight to any room in your house, including closets, laundry nooks, hallways, and traditionally dark areas. Make your home more eco-friendly and lower those energy bills by zapping the need for electric lights during the day.
Devices such as the SolaTube can also be installed by DIYers. Because they require no structural reframing, tunneling, drywalling or painting, they are a relatively simple home improvement.
