Motion Detector with Floodlight Means Convenience and Energy Savings

Usually, when you think of a light attached to a motion detector, you think of home security applications. After all, burglars prefer to ply their trade in the dark nooks where nobody can see them. And that’s a big part of why people pick up floodlights, but outdoor lamps hooked up to motion detectors can also be a convenience for you.

If you, or your family members, regularly come home after dark, then you’re probably in the habit of leaving a porch light on. It’s nice to be able to get up to the front door and put the lock into the key without tripping over something, and even if you’re just driving into the garage, you probably like the feeling of entering an inviting well-lit area instead of dark shadows. This is why motion detector lights can be handy.

Not only do they come on if a burglar approaches the house, but they come on for you, lighting the way into your home after dark. This can be a simple way to save energy, too, since you don’t have to leave outdoor lights on for family members–the floodlight simply pops on whenever someone is coming home.

An outdoor light linked to a motion detector doesn’t have to be a huge expenditure either. The model shown here is available for $50 from X10:
