Bamboo Stair Treads Keep It Bright

3 August 2008

You’ve doubtlessly seen bamboo flooring before, and if you’re a fan of eco-friendly hard-surface floors, you may even be thinking of installing some in your home. The lightness of bamboo can really keep a room feeling open and airy, and at the same time, it’s easy to maintain and keep clean, even standing up well in high traffic areas.

If you’ve been pondering carpeting for a set of stairs, you might actually consider just going with the same bamboo you’re installing elsewhere in the house. Stairways, often not as open as the one shown here, can feel a little dark, since there usually aren’t a lot of windows lighting staircases and hallways. With bamboo’s attractive blond coloring, it can make even dim rooms feel bright.

Also, bamboo’s ease of maintenance can come in handy on stair treads. If you’ve ever tried to vacuum carpeted stairs, you know what I’m talking about–that is one awkward job. But with hard surface floors, all you need is a broom.

The handsome stairs here were installed by bamboo specialist, Teragren
