Wall-mounted Wooden Match Holder

Lindsay ~ 2 July 2008

If you have a barbecue grill or fireplace that you use frequently, you probably go through quite a few matches. I like the long wooden matches best, since they burn nicely and allow you to keep a bit of distance from the actual fireplace or grill (especially nice for those gas grills that light with a big whoosh that has you checking your eyebrows to make sure they weren’t singed off).

The long wooden matches, however, take up a bit more drawer space than a pack of the cheap paper ones, so if you light things often, you might check into a match holder.

This pine wood holder can be mounted to the wall next to the fireplace for convenience, and there’s even a spot at the bottom where you can attach the striking material that comes on boxes of matches.

The finish is a walnut stain with a beeswax and linseed oil rub to create an attractive matte finish.
