Squirrel-shaped Oven Rack Push/Pull Tool

9 July 2008

Are you a collector of kitchen gadgets? I have to admit that even though I don’t do a lot of cooking, I can spend hours browsing those kitchen stores, and I’m a sucker for a lot of the gadgets out there. That’s probably why I was drawn to this wooden squirrel oven rack push/pull.

If you’ve got a pan or a sheet of cookies that slid back a ways on the oven rack, you don’t want to stick your arm in the hot oven to get them. Even with a mitt on, you might bump your arm and singe some precious skin off. That’s where a push/pull tool comes in handy.

It hooks onto the end of the rack and lets you easily slide the whole thing out so you can grab your cookies without risk of burning anything important. When you’re done, use the tool again to push the hot rack back into place.

There’s no particular reason an oven push/pull tool needs to be squirrel shaped, but it’s a bit more fun than a plain old stick. And this particular squirrel was handmade by a crafter on Etsy.

You can pick it up for $4.50 from Destine’s shop.
