Soapstone Patios and Pathways

Lindsay ~ 26 March 2008

Soapstone is a handsome stone that’s often used in fireplaces because it’s great at retaining warmth. It draws in the heat while the fire is going and radiates it back out into the room for hours, even after the fire has gone out. But fireplaces aren’t the only place you might use this cozy stone.

If you’re looking to redo your outdoor living space, soapstone patios and pathways can be handsome additions. And that same heat-retaining ability can be great on a patio where you want to entertain in the evenings. Heat gathered during the day will radiate warmth into the evening, keeping your guests from getting chilled while they wait for your latest and greatest masterpieces from the grill.

The soapstone patio shown here is made from soapstone pavers by Tulikivi. You can get the uneven natural kind of pavers or, if you prefer more uniformity, standard sized tiles. Both are suitable for outdoor use.
