Mudroom Lockers Increase in Popularity

There was probably a time when you never considered installing “lockers” outside of, well, locker rooms, but when you’ve got a large family, it’s hard to dismiss the practicality of mudroom lockers–dedicated storage cubbies just inside the door. These special cabinets are a perfect way to store boots, coats, hats, and other outdoor items, especially when you live in a rainy or snowy climate where you’re always dragging in wet footwear and jackets.

While it’s still not common to find off-the-shelf mudroom lockers you can just purchase, there are plenty of cabinet makers who will be happy to create built-in versions for you. If you’re doing extensive remodeling or building a house from scratch, this is an easy addition to have the builder work in.

Also, you can make your own mudroom lockers if you have a hobbyist woodworker or experienced do-it-yourselfer in the family. If you don’t need quite this much space, you can find smaller dedicated storage units for the mudroom (i.e. coat racks, storage benches, boot trays, and cubbies for various garments and shoes).
