Hand-painted Fire Clay Sinks Add Character to the Kitchen
Lindsay ~ 5 March 2008
If you’re looking for a new kitchen sink, fire clay (also called vitreous china) is a great material to consider. It has a tough surface that resists wear well, and unlike case-iron sinks or steel sinks coated with enamel, fire clay sinks are made of the same materials all the way through, so if you get a chip, it won’t lead to rust in a metal substrate.
You can get some lovely character with fire-clay sinks, too, since they can be decorated before firing. Then the pattern becomes a permanent part of the sink’s surface.
This hand-painted fire clay sink feature grave vines is from Whitehaus Collection.
