Fig Leaf Fireplace Screen

21 January 2008

A fireplace screen is a good idea, since it keeps sparks from flying out into the room (one usually doesn’t want singe marks on the carpet, hardwood floor, cat, etc.), but some of the ones I’ve seen are basic to the point of being ugly. A curtain of black metal links hanging in front of the firebox isn’t all that attractive. Fortunately, there are lots of designer (or at least more sophisticated) fireplace screens out there.

This one is called “Leafing Out” (a screen with a name, now that’s upscale!) and features a steel frame modeled after fig branches. The underlying steel wire mess screen is unobtrusive as it safeguards against flying sparks.
