Train Mailbox Makes Your Curb More Fun
If you drive through a residential neighborhood, you’ll notice most of the mailboxes are, well, boring. Black, black, silver, white, black, rusted beyond color recognition… Sure, these mailboxes are functional, but they’re not very interesting or fun.
A mailbox shaped like an old-fashioned train on the other hand is a memorable receptacle for your Christmas packages, cards, and letters (or bills, as the case may be). Decorative and/or fun mailboxes usually won’t cost you a fortune, and they’re simple to install, so it’s an easy way to add some whimsy to your yard (or maybe you’d just like a curbside landmark to help people find your house when you’re giving directions… “Turn left and stop at the house with the train mailbox.”)
The model shown here was handmade from a crafter on Etsy:
“These mailboxes are heavy duty. I recieved alot of compliments on the one that I made for myself. I like the rough rustic look, it just seems to work. Each mailbox is constructed with 18″ steel pipe . The cab, wheels, and front cow catcher are made from 34″ plywood that’s screwed ,sealed, and painted to resist the weather conditions. These boxes weigh 25lbs and measure 25″long, 12″wide, and 15″high, excluding the 8″coupler pipe that secures the them to a 2″ pipe base. They should give many years of reliable service as mine has and still does.”
