Glass Floats Decorate Your Pond or Water Garden
If you have a koi pond or water garden, you might want to add a few decorations, a little something more than the typical lily pads. These hand-blown glass floats are attractive, and if you ask me, it’s pretty impressive that they float. Glass isn’t something you think of as being light and airy.
According to the artist, Marty White Elk, the colorful floats are quite challenging to create, especially in sizes over 12″ in diameter (he makes floats up to 22″). “There are very few glass artists creating glass floats in diameters of over 12″ as they are very, very difficult to create. They are hand blown in temperatures well exceeding 2,000 degrees in the furnaces and glory holes, and temperatures well over 100 degrees in the studio.”
White Elk offers them in a variety of sizes and colors, with prices starting around $900 for a 14″ diameter float. Let’s hope your koi don’t get too rambunctious and toss your hand-blown artwork against the rocks in the night.
