Outdoor Stone Furniture Stands up to the Elements

Lindsay ~ 13 April 2007

Today there are all sorts of materials to pick from when you’re shopping for outdoor furniture. Whether you need sofas, tables, chairs, benches, or pool-side lounges, progress in weather-proofing has opened up a lot of options. Still there are some classics that are just hard to beat.

Natural stone may not be the softest thing to sit on (though a few cushions can change that), but it stands up to the test of time like no other material. Long after wood has rotted away, stone continues to stand. If you’re in a climate that sees a lot of moisture (i.e. the Pacific Northwest), then it may be the one material that can stand up to the pervasive dampness and even look stately when wet. It’s not going to wither and fade under the intense sun of warmer climates either. Also stone won’t develop odd stains from chlorine if it’s poolside, so no need to harass the kids about drying off before sitting on the furniture.

This stone table and bench is from Cantera Especial, a company that designs custom furniture, fireplace surrounds, columns, fountains, and just anything else home-related that is made from stone.
