Etched Glass Door Panels

17 April 2007

Bathrooms can be dark and gloomy if they’re positioned inside a home where there are no external walls and thus no windows to allow daylight inside. Sconces and ceiling fixtures can do the job, but it’s hard to beat natural daylight. But how can you achieve that without windows?

One way is to use a glass panel in the door to allow light from the hallway to enter. Now, you don’t want every passerby in the house to be able to peep in on you in the bathroom, so etched glass is one way to go. It allows light to pass through while blocking visibility.

The glass panel shown here is handsomely decorated to make the door feel as much like artwork as a functional part of the bathroom. It was created by Lehmann Glass, a company that creates all sorts of etched glass pieces for the home. You can browse their gallery for ideas.
