Jute Rugs Softer Than Sisal
15 March 2007
Sisal rugs are a popular choice with homeowners who prefer to use natural materials, but sisal is notoriously scratchy on bare feet. An equally organic alternative is jute. Made from natural fibers, the material is soft to the touch and you can find it in braided, looped, and flat-weave rug designs.
These houndstooth jute rugs come in several different colors, and they are designed to look like pieces of American folk art. Available from Ballard Designs, the rugs come in 4′ x 6′ ($70) and 8′ x 10′ ($200) sizes. Jute rugs are best used in low to medium traffic areas.
