Air Oasis 3000 Xtreme Purifies with UV Lamps
When it comes to air purifiers, HEPA filters have been the gold standard for several decades, but they can be expensive (the cost of replacing the filters is often equal to half the price of the purifier itself). They’re also somewhat noisy, since they involve fans. An alternative to air cleaners that use HEPA filters is models that use UV lamps. These sterilize the air by altering the DNA of bacteria, mold, and viruses.
One example is the Air Oasis 3000 Xtreme, a sleek 17″ tall unit that can fit unobtrusively in a corner. It can handle a 3,000 square foot area and promises to remove 98% of the mold, bacteria, yeast, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the air within 4 days. Since the unit has no moving parts, you won’t even hear it running.
One potential downside with UV air purifiers though is that most models produce small amounts of airborne ozone, which can trigger asthma. If that’s a problem for someone in your family, you might be best sticking with HEPA air purifiers.
The Air Oasis 3000 Xtreme costs $369 and is available from Air Oasis.
