Heat Your Hot Tub with Solar Power

22 February 2007

When my family bought a hot tub a few years ago, one of the most noticeable changes was how much the electricity bill increased. Keeping a spa heated around the clock takes quite a bit of power. If you use it often and enjoy it (as we do) it’s probably worth it, but what if you could heat your hot tub for free?

There are solar kits you can get that are specifically made to hook up to and power hot tubs. Of course, you have to pay the cost of the initial equipment purchase and installation, but after that the sun is heating your spa for you.

The Alternative Energy Store is one place where you can get these solar-powered spa heating systems. Prices start around $1,200 for a Heliodyne collector kit, though you’d have to ask the company if one kit is enough to power your hot tub and what other accessories you might need to purchase. But if you’re tired of a high energy bill because of your spa, it might be something to look into.
