Vacuum Decanter Keeps Wine Fresh Longer

9 January 2007

Whether you’re opening a favorite vintage to enjoy on your own or hosting a get together, it always seems like there’s some wine left in the bottle at the end of the night. Since wine begins to lose its flavor once it’s exposed to oxygen, there are all sorts of ideas on the market that are supposed to keep your bottle fresh. This vacuum decanter is another one.

Made by Metrokane, the 52-ounce hand-blown crystal decanter comes with a hand pump and vacuum gauge that are supposed to suck the air out for storage. This process “maintains wine character until the next pouring.” I’m sure you still wouldn’t want to leave the bottle out indefinitely, but something like this might add a couple more days to the beverage’s shelf life.

It’s available for $80 through Amazon: Vacuum Wine Decanter
