Build Your Own Gazebo

19 January 2007

Adding a gazebo to the backyard can offer a private nook where you can get away from it all. You can add seating or simply leave it open as a place to offer shelter during family get-togethers. Sure, you can hire someone to build a gazebo for you, but if you like the idea of doing it yourself, you might get a kit or one of these modular gazebos from Vixen Hills.

You don’t have to be a carpenter since you’re not assembling each board from scratch. Rather the modules are shipped to you, and if you’re a moderately skilled DIYer, you can build a lasting structure.

Just because they come in kits doesn’t mean you can’t put your own custom touches into the gazebo. A DIY design studio on the company’s web site lets you select from a variety of features such as leaving the gazebo open or closing it in with glass panels or insect screens.

Prices start around $5,000 for a 9-foot structure with a 1-tier roof and no frills. Depending on what you want to add (i.e. a 2-tier roof, benches, cabinetry grade wood, etc.), the cost goes up from there.
