Older House? Choose a Historic Wall Mailbox
If you live in an older “historic” house, it’s a good idea to make your home improvements faithful to the time period in which the home was built. Depending on much of a stickler you are for detail, this could even extend to your mailbox. After all, a stainless steel mailbox on a pole on the curb doesn’t quite fit in with a house built in the pre-automobile days. Back then all the mail was delivered to your home on foot. This meant you’d probably have a wall-mounted mailbox next do your door. You can find wall boxes today, but sometimes you have to do a little hunting to find something that looks authentic to the time period of your house.
Dahlhouse Lighting sells reproduction mailboxes, outdoor lights, signs, and other house accessories from several historical time periods. The detail on this one really caught my eye. It’s too bad my 1970s split level (yeah, yeah, quit laughing) would just look stupid with something like this.
