Designer Cutting Boards from Wood Scraps
Lindsay ~ 14 November 2006
If the idea of a designer cutting board gets you all excited to do more cooking, then you’ll probably be extra impressed at the idea of boards made from scraps of exotic hardwoods.
When New York City carpenter Beau Van Donkelaar finishes a custom cabinetry or furniture job, he keeps the off-cuts instead of tossing them into the scrap pile or the land fill. They’re given new life in the form of chopping boards for your kitchen. You can get domestic woods or exotic imports, depending on what he’s been working on lately. The 10″ x 9″ cutting board shown here is made from Natural Birch, Cherry, Padauk, Purple Heart, and Walnut, and it costs $98 from Domus New York.
