Even though hardwood floors are beautiful in and of themselves, adding a border or a design or some such can add some personality and becomes a reflection of the people who live there. You can even have imprints (or in this case foot prints) set in amongst the floor boards. Woodmax Doors specializes in custom carved doors, but I found these bear tracks embedded in a hardwood floor in their gallery. What a fun idea for a vacation home in the mountains or a rustic cabin. I suppose you could do something like this for your urban or suburban home, too, but you’d probably want to use the tracks of a local critter (the family hound, perhaps?).
