Artificial Trees for the Backyard?

Lindsay ~ 1 October 2006

I was perusing the Wall Street Journal the other day, and they mentioned that some homeowners are going with artificial trees and bushes for their yards. These plastic plants are made from urethane and designed to go in spots that are hard to reach with water (or maybe you just don’t want to waste your time watering at all) or to camouflage cable boxes, trash cans, or other unsightly eye sores in your yard. I can think of another reason why you might want to consider artificial trees: no worrying about roots growing and disrupting the foundation or (in my case) thrusting up through the pavement in the driveway to make steering the car into the garage like driving through an obstacle course. The company selling these plants is called TropEx Exterior Trees, and they have everything from grass to palm trees to manicured hedges to geraniums.
