A Windmill in Your Backyard

Lindsay ~ 20 October 2006

Tired of paying so much for energy? Well, you could generate your own if you installed a residential windmill in your backyard (or front yard or side yard or wherever you can fit a very tall pole…). The Skystream 3.7 from Southwest Windpower is the first “plug-and-play” windmill. According to the company, the unit installs in just one day. Plant the tower in concrete, then connect four wires from the generator to your circuit-breaker, and you’re ready to suck power from the sky. Depending on your local wind speed, installing the windmill will supply 30-90% of your energy needs. If you’re lucky enough to produce more power than you need, you can sell the extra watts back to the utility company for a profit.
