Hamilton Beach Talking Microwave

27 September 2006

I’m all for drooling over the latest kitchen gadgets, but I’m not sure I’d want to own the Hamilton Beach Talking Microwave. Ever since I got a microwave that beeps to tell you that your meal is done and continues to beep every 30 seconds until you take the darned dish out of the oven, I’ve been a bit bitter about advances in microwave “helpfulness.” I’ve also got a new dishwasher that beeps continuously if you leave the door open in the middle of the cycle (which I’ve been known to interrupt if someone is trying to take a shower), and all these beeping appliances are making me a little crazy. I’m not sure I could stand a microwave calling out “Your popcorn is done” every minute. Sometimes you start something during one commercial with no intention of going back until the next, but it’s hard to concentrate on your program with all that beeping. Imagine if it were talking…

Ahem, now that I’ve gone off on a rant, I’ll give you some facts on the talking microwave this post is supposed to be about. The 900 Watt Hamilton Beach unit is .9 cubit feet and can be found at stores such as Wal-mart and Amazon for under $100. The talking option is meant to be instructive and can walk you through the different features. The microwave is available in black or stainless steel. There, I think I wrangled this post back under control. More information at Hamilton Beach.

Yeah I kinda agree with you. I don’t think I need a talking microwave. I have one of those ones that beeps every 30 seconds if you don’t take your food out right away too and it’s a pain in the rear. Hamilton Beach does have some nice appliances though so they are worth checking out.
